TAKASHI HOMMA
『NEW YORK』

Since 2013, Homma has used the camera obscura technique – a proto-form of photography – for his Pinhole series. In camera obscura, an inverted image is projected by light passing through a tiny hole on a wall. Homma blacks out the windows of a room in various high-rise buildings, converting the interior space into a pinhole camera. As Homma explains, it is an attempt to ‘photograph the urban architecture using a piece of urban architecture’. In this series inspired by leading photographers such as Bernd and Hilla Becher and Nobuo Yamanaka, the cultural histories of each city are intertwined with histories of art, architecture and design.
