YOHEI KICHIRAKU
『fireworks 13』
Yohei KICHIRAKU’s “fireworks” is a series introducing people playing fireworks at the seashore. Playing with fireworks is a familiar motif to many people, while seeing with humans eyes or being captured in photography becomes a different visual experience. The artist himself describes there are many times he is not sure what is captured when shooting the absolute darkness of the night sea.
Documenting performative acts of strangers, fireworks not only interacts with viewers’ past memories with its poetic summer scents eroding from its surfaces, but also exemplifies coincidental essences, both significantly the characteristics of the medium of photography.
