NOBUYOSHI ARAKI
『Beast-and-Flower Pictures』
"Beast-and-Flower Pictures" is one of the series exhibited in 2011 at "Film Nostalgia", Araki's 17th solo exhibition at Taka Ishii Gallery. Araki, who has gone to the extreme in using film as means of artistic expression, calls himself "Photo-Mad Old Man A", which came from the legendary Japanese ukiyo-e and print artist Katsushika Hokusai, who left behind a collection of 30,000 works and who called himself "Old Man Crazy to Paint". Hokusai created several series of birds and flowers called 'Bird-and-Flower Prints'. Araki named his pictures of flowers and dinosaur toys 'Beast-and-Flower Pictures'.
