Paloma al aire is a groundbreaking photo book in contemporary Spanish photography. Cases was a photojournalist. In his own words, "I had wanted to have arest from the responsibility to inform the society about current affairs. So I started to be in touch with the photo collective Blank Paper in 2006, then discovered other possibilities of photography". The book is inflused with Cases'journalistic viewpoint and humor. The motif is a pigeon competition in Spain, where 90 male pigeons go after one female pigeon, and Cases captures the pigeon breeders who invest time, money, and their desires onto the male pigeons,as a metaphor for contemporary applied to the birds by the feverish men that are far from refined, begin to appear somewhat comical and loveable. Using a bold layout, design, and editing, Cases comliled those into a book design that resembles a spiral-bound racing referee's notebook. The result is a photobook that splendidly encases the concept of this series.
