KOU INOSE
『DOGRA MAGRA』
This is the most well-known work by Kou Inose, whose career as a photographer began during his time at university, when he was asked to take portraits of a patient at a psychiatric ward. While it is the uniqueness of his subjects – a spider on a faucet, carp in an aquarium, an anatomy class, a circus, etc. – that usually tend to catch the eye, the sheer beauty of the prints is just as marvelous. This series was received with astonishment when shown at “Another Language”, an exhibition of works by eight Japanese photographers held as part of the Arles International Photography Festival in 2015, and went on to win critical acclaim around the world.
