『faces_window』
Although they may seem as repetitive patterns at first sight, one would realize they actually are closeup images of daily commodities such as chopsticks, strings, cardboard boxes and others. Atsushi Okabe works with photographic objects within our daily hemisphere, however seeks enclosed optical aesthetics. “faces” series which excessively feature the materiality of the objects, at times even use as much as 70 toothpaste tubes in order to attain sensuous comfort. The commodities put in such flat, plain images physically connote a unique exquisite balance within the two directions, allowing us to discover brand new viewing experiences of familiar objects we all must have seen before.
